What is NWEA testing?
The Chicago Board of Education mandated NWEA testing in Chicago Public Schools in 2012 to replace the outdated ISAT tests. NWEA stands for the Northwest Evaluation Association. This organization provides assessments to measure student growth over time as well as to assess students' academic needs. Kindergarten through 8th grade students at Sauganash Elementary School take the NWEA test in reading and math. Kindergarten takes the NWEA/MAP assessment. MAP stands for Measures of Academic Growth. This digital assessment is taken in the computer lab at the beginning, middle, and end of the year. Teachers analyze the test scores and use the data to form ability groups and guide instruction for these groups.
